Oklahoma companies focus drilling activity on STACK play in central part of state

Despite slashing drilling budgets and slowing most activity, oil companies continue to pay close attention to central Oklahoma.

Executives for four larger independent oil and natural gas companies this week spent much of their quarterly conference calls talking about Oklahoma’s STACK play. Short for the Sooner Trend, Anadarko (Basin), Canadian and Kingfisher (counties), the STACK is an area northwest of Oklahoma City that contains several layers of rock each containing large amounts of oil and natural gas.
